Why a Roof Stain Can Be Away From the Leak
An interior stain shows where water reached a finished surface. It does not necessarily show where rain crossed the roof.

Following the Water Path
Water can move along the underside of the deck, a framing member or a concealed layer before it reaches a place to drip. That is why replacing shingles directly above a stain can miss the opening. A vent boot, wall joint, valley or disturbed covering farther up the slope can be involved.
Paola Roofers can help connect this question to your roof. Have a roof leak checked
Repair the Opening and the Surrounding Layers
The repair follows the likely water path and examines those connections rather than treating the ceiling mark as a map pin. The surrounding material matters too: a new flashing needs a sound deck and compatible covering around it. Interior damage can need separate restoration after the roof problem is corrected. Tell us the room and roughly when you noticed the water. If the change followed wind or hail, that history helps the conversation, but the actual roofing condition still needs inspection.
