A regional scenario
The October 2026 model describes a stated Kansas City metro asphalt scope. It is not a measured Paola-wide price survey.

Understand the regional planning range and the physical work that changes a roof replacement budget.
For a regional planning example, 2,000 square feet of measured roof surface with architectural asphalt shingles falls in an $8,000 to $12,000 range. The Kansas City metro benchmark covers one-layer tear-off, synthetic underlayment, specified water protection, needed flashing, ridge venting and haul-away. It is a planning scenario for that scope, not a measured Paola market average.
House floor area and roof area are different quantities. Roof pitch, overhangs, multiple levels and attached roof sections change the surface being covered. The calculator accepts either measured surface or a simple footprint and applies its stated roof-shape assumption. It keeps the supported surface range visible rather than extrapolating an unsupported rate.

Concealed damaged decking, structural work, extensive wall or chimney repairs and special access can add work beyond the benchmark. A steeper, more detailed roof also changes labor and waste. Roof inspection and project quantities determine the actual scope. A permit fee is separate from installation cost.

Planning basis: October 2026 Kansas City metro architectural asphalt evidence, checked October 27, 2026, at $4 to $6 per roof-surface square foot for 1,500 to 3,500 square feet. Detailed source records are retained in internal research. The calculator does not apply that residential rate to metal, repairs or commercial roofing.

The inspection and roof quantities identify removal, access, details and damaged layers before a project price is agreed.
